Connecting Geomatics Research with the Global OSGeo Community.
In November, Federica Gaspari from our team had the privilege of participating in the annual edition of FOSS4G global conference which took place in Auckland, New Zealand.
Organized by OSGEO Oceania, this conference brought together leading experts in geospatial open source software development and adoption offering a platform for innovative ideas and collaborative discussions.

The atmosphere at the AUT City Campus felt both familiar and completely new, and that’s exactly what we value about these events. Thanks to the incredible organizers from OSGeo Oceania, the conference brought together a community that feels like home while keeping discussions fresh, relevant, and driven by real-world challenges.
This year, we had the opportunity to contribute to the Academic Track, sharing our research on road and bridge management systems. Presenting our work in this context allowed us to engage with developers and practitioners, bridging the gap between high-level Geomatics research and the practical, agile solutions offered by the open-source ecosystem.

Beyond the presentations, we experienced that unique kind of curiosity that comes from confronting new tools, emerging trends (such as Cloud-Native Geospatial and advanced QGIS workflows), and ideas that push the boundaries of our field. The workshops and talks offered inspiration and new directions that we are excited to bring back to our research at Politecnico di Milano.
We are deeply grateful to this vibrant community—both inside and outside the conference venue—and to all the new friends and colleagues who shared their stories far beyond the formal sessions.
